India has an estimated 50,000 kms of water bodies including rivers, streams and lakes with an additional more than 7,500 kms of coastline. The vastness of water bodies is one major reason for which India has immense water sports activities opportunities for its water sports lovers. The rivers and streams flowing through numerous cities and towns of India offer extensive scope for fishing and angling.

Angling in Coorg
In Southern part of India, river Cauvery, which originates from the Brahmagiri Hill in the Western Ghats in Coorg district of Karnataka state, is the major attraction for the angling and fishing freaks. Coorg draws large number of anglers every year from the world over. There's definitely a lot of scope for some satisfying angling possibilities on the river Cauvery. The banks of the river are a good place to fish for Mahseer.

On the banks of the river Cauvery near Kushalnagar is the Valnur Fishing Camp, where avid fishing and angling enthusiasts can try their hand in the luxury of angling for mahseer. Fishing & Angling permits can be obtained from the Coorg Wildlife Society.

The Essential for Anglers in Coorg
The Coorg Wildlife Association, Madikeri, provides information on fishing license and guides for Mahseer fishing. Fishing licenses are mandatory for all eager anglers, so do visit the designated official before you throw your line into the water, or you just might find yourself being hauled off and penalized. In most cases, fishing licenses are not issued during the monsoon seasons, when most fish species breed. Furthermore, there are stipulations that all fish caught must be released into the water, and anglers are restricted to a specified number of fish per day. Angling requires plenty of patience and the ability to keep still and quiet for hours on an end. So, if you have the patience, go ahead and gear up for an exhilarating trip to Coorg for a memorable time.
