Referred to ‘As some of the kindest people on earth' they live in the many Tibetan refugee settlements in the rolling hills near Madikeri – the ‘Namdroling Monastry is about 5 kms from Kushalnagar & is home to the ‘jaw droppingly spectacular golden temple' also known as ‘Padmasambhava Buddhist Vihara' which is dazzlingly presided over by an 18 meter high gold plated Buddha. The temple is in particularly good form when school is in session & it rings out with gongs, drums & chants if hundreds of young novices. Also recently opened is the 'Zangdogpalri temple' – a similarly spectacular affair next door. 2 kms from Namdroling – Sera village is also home to 2 monastries, 'Sera Jhe' & Sera Mey'. The atmosphere in the villages is simply heartwarming. The village offers Tibetan food & artifacts.
