Karnataka Information

Formed in 1950, Karnataka was formerly known as Mysore and it is now among one of the four southern political units. Kannada is the official language of Karnataka but English is widely spoken in the main cities. The eighth largest state of India boasts of unforgettable tourist delights – the dazzling ancient sculpted temples, scenic mountains, pleasant and enjoyable weather, rich palaces, endless beaches, virgin tropical forests, modern and happening cities and above all, its friendly people. Home to the IT capital of India – Bangalore -- the cosmopolitan city in the true sense of the term, is famous for its energetic nightlife and westernized lifestyle. Rapid industrialisation has not drastically altered the pace of life here, which is comparatively unhurried. This coupled with the agreeable climate, the greenery, the cleanliness and the sense of order; makes Bangalore India's most congenial City. Make Bangalore your base camp and transport yourself to the magnificent past, discover the state's wildlife treasures or relax in the lap of a cool hill station.

The enchanting state abounding in scenic beauty, rich in flora and fauna and symbolizing the Indian IT superiority, offer tourists all the inducements to unwind and feel home about. The exquisite blend of glorious traditions and technological marvels of the modern world make Karnataka a kaleidoscope of exciting experiences to bewitch the senses. There are many cities of historic and religious importance like Mysore, Hampi, Vijaynagaram, Mangalore, Hubli-Dharwad, Bellary and Belgaum blessed with magnificent temples and palaces. The impressive palaces and monumental temples are the legacies of powerful dynasties that date back to hundreds of years. Karnataka is among the world's most ancient civilizations and is home to two World Heritage Sites – Hampi and Pattadakal. In terms of natural attractions, 22 percent of the state's land area is made up of forests; Karnataka is home to Jog Falls - Asia's highest waterfall. The unique geographical situation, the lush green vegetation and the royal ruins of the monuments are deservedly Karnataka's famous attractions .

The unique geographical features of Karnataka will let the adventure lovers go as primitive as they want. Cruising along the hotspots in Karnataka, there is a dreamy experience at every turn. The hill-stations of Karnataka - Madikeri, Kudremukh, and Nandi Hills - offer you an opportunity to discover how intoxicating nature can be. You will find a variety of exotic flora and fauna at the wildlife sanctuaries at Bhimeshwari, Ranganthittu, Bandipur and Nagarhole. The coastal belt of Karnataka -- Karavali beach and temple country - is sheltered by the soaring Western Ghats in the east and embraced by the blue waters of the Arabian Sea in the west. A magical place of palm-fringed beaches, lush green fields, breathtaking views and temple towns, coastal Karnataka has indeed been blessed by nature. Southern Karnataka is a unique blend of tradition and modernity. On one hand are the towns of Hassan, Belur and Halebeedu, famous for their exquisite temples; and on the other is Bangalore, one of the fastest growing cities in South Asia.
